The Edge of Glory

"I'm on the edge of glory and I'm hanging on a moment of truth"
Thursday, 15th September 2011 is both historical and hysterical. In fact the whole week was magical. I can still recall the atmosphere in Grand Kawanua Convention Centre the night the medals were given away. It was the most awesome feeling I have ever experience.

Yes reader, finally my hard work had been repaid. I present to you this silver medal! I ranked 11th overall and ranked 6th among the other silver medalist. I was a wee bit disappointed though that I didn't get a gold medal because everyone was already kind of hoping so. But it's alright, thinking that I get to experience Pelatnas is good enough for me :) I must fight though, because this time there is only two slots available and I want this thing. So bad.

Anyways, I had a lot of fun with my friends from DKI Jakarta for the past couple of weeks. Meet The 12 Happy Contestants and our co-ordinator:

From left to right, back to front: Matthew Billy, Janice Tanumihardja, Meva Nareza, Bu Naniek, Nazmun Lailah, Alvin Sanjaya, Bu Yus, Tazkya Amany, Elva Vidya, Meutia Admiralda, Afandi Charles, me, Nobian Andre, Fahmi Ahmadi

Oh and the biology team of DKI Jakarta brought home 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals, 4 bronze medals, a best experiment trophy and an absolute winner title. So proud of them! God, I miss them already :')

Award Night at Grand Kawanua :)

So, what's next? Next is pelatnas satu which will be held on 5th of October at Wisma Kartini Bandung. This is a training and selection for Indonesia's delegation at International Biology Olympiad 2012 Singaporee!! I will be rejoined with most of the DKI Jakarta biology team except for Nazmun, Elva and Fahmi. I will miss you guyss :") Please do not forget me okaay.

Oh and before I forget I'd like to thank these people:

Biology most legendary couple: Harun Reza Sugito (Gold IBO Korea 2010) and Marsha Christanvia (Silver IBO Taipei 2011)

Thank you for your kindness and patience during the training week at Belleza and also for everything before and after that. Thanks for the chocolate, and your faith in us. I hope you'll like the present we gave youu :)

Alright, I think that's a wrap. Oh and last last request, please always pray the best for me. I am nothing without you ;)

The Wondrous Month

Happy Ramadhan Readers! Merry fasting, taraweh, firecrackers, fireworks, tadarus, sahur and ngabuburit :)

Wow, times really did flies. Well, this is my first official Ramadhan as a vegetarian and it feels so hard :( I'm also on a carb-diet which forbid me to eat rice. So basically I'm eating vegetables and anything not rice that I can lay my hands on. But it's all worth it. The thought that I didn't contribute to the market's demand on livestock slaughter makes me a little bit soothed :)

Anyway, it is my third Ramadhan away from home. Remember that I go to a boarding school? It's pretty much fun although I really miss homemade ta'jil. The biji salak, bubur mutiara, kolak pisang.... (Okay stop it, you're drooling) I'm just glad that I could come home and break my fasting twice a week because I must attend INTEN for my national examination preparation.

Without any further ado, I simply wish you guys a wonderful Ramadhan to share with your family, friends, relatives, girlfriend/boyfriend, your pets, teachers, nemesis (it's Ramadhan, declaring truce for about 30 days won't hurt anyone), poor people, orphans and every other God's creature. Show everyone the beauty nature of Islam that, unfortunately, may have been damaged by some irresponsible people. And may at the end of the month, we can taste the sweet flavor of victory, amen.

Assalamu'ailaikum wr. wb.

My Silent Words...

Hey bloggers, it's been a while. Confused about my last post? Nah just let it go, it's just a phase. I'm sure for the next few days, I will be all over it.

R: Oh for God sakes! Can we talk about other things? Pleasee
L: Owkaay..

This past few weeks has been a theater, a production, a play, a masquerade: name everything with drama, act, feelings, surprises, upside, downside, it's my past few weeks you're talking about. Why? Oh why else would something like this happen beside the fact that Chace Crawford came to our school and declared his love for me in the middle of a lesson! the result of The Province Science Olympiad is out.

Yes, that's true everyone. It is out. And boy that pdf appearance brought a lot of concussion. I'm talking about national mass hysteria here. Apparently there's some changes in the rules this year and those rules were applied without a prior notice to the contestant. Some disappointed contestant even hacked the website of the announcer to send a message that they are messing with Indonesia's best students. Well, in our turf, these new rules costs us our bright students who could have passed but thanks to the stupid 2-students-per-school, they have to stay home and give their last and precious chance to someone below their achievement, who got lucky because apparently they are in the first place in their province.

As to my room mate, my team mate, one of my best competitor and motivator: I miss you so much! We, miss you so much. I don't know what I've done wrong or if I've done something wrong, if I do please forgive and please please please be normal again. You told me that there's nothing wrong but your actions reflect otherwise and it's killing me. It's not going to be the same without you, trust me. I mean we're Motil after all and we've been through A LOT together. You're still the great you even without this OSN stuffy. Don't let it defines who you are. You kicked people's asses before and I believe you'll kick ass as hard as you did before or maybe even harder. No, definitely even harder.

Okay maybe I'm not your favouritest person right now and maybe you'll say that I don't understand your feelings right now but at least please let me be there for you. Don't go all alienized on me, we're room mates for goodness sake, you know how awkward it is when the three of us are in the same room. And well you may say I 'm a coward by putting this in my blog rather than talking to you, the fact is I've tried! I even burst into tears one night and told you that I missed you but then it only changed you for a smaaaaaaallllll amount of time and parts before you go all 'alien mode: on' to me again. Talk to me, pleaseeeeeeee. Desperately need you here.

Call Pest Control

Butterflies in my stomach, wonder wonder when you came, wonder wonder when you'll go. Wonder wonder who brought them, wonder wonder why they're still there.

Inside Wants Out

Did you ever want something so bad that you burst into tears and weep? If you're four years old then I'll be surprised if you don't. Problem is, you're not. I'm not. Hopefully, we're all not. But I have this desire, very very big desire, to see the world. I have always had this wish but never as strong as it is now. I spent the past two hours staring at my laptop screen and scouring for any travel agent in Indonesia that offers international tours. And unfortunately, no offers fit my pocket.

I grew up in Indonesia, not a developed country, but beautiful and daring. I love my country so much but it's like living in a box you've given birth into; At first, the box seemed so big and spacious. As you grow up, you eventually realize that the box is not growing with you. It doesn't expand. Within sixteen years, your head and arms and leg were struggling to fit inside the box. Some people were able to adapt and feel comfortable living in that box because they made up soothing reason to entertain themselves. "I've lived in this box my entire life and I feel fine. I will not sacrifice this just to have a peek of the outside world" or "I know my strength. I'll never be able to break this box. Rather than fracturing my limb in the process, I think I'll survive living inside this box"

But I don't want this kind of life! Ordinary is boring. Normal is overrated. I want to not only take a peek of the outside world but also be a part of it. See it with my own eyes. Breathe the air with my own nose, hear the crowd's voices with my own ears and feel the ground with my own feet. I don't want to leave this world with only a few pictures in my camera. It will be a waste of money since the camera worth a fortune, right? I truly believe that the world is too small for someone with a will. And hopefully I can overcome this economic trench between me and my outside world and then finally, I can live the life I want to live.

Sure I'm exaggerating. There is more to life than just filling in photo albums. I've said it myself. But is it wrong to have a wish? I will never know whether I'll be able to break my box or end up exhausted and surrender, adapted to live inside the box. This dream is a one-to-a-million shot. I will need a hefty sum of money to be able to live the life I want to live. I even doubted myself will this ever be come true. But a girl can dream, can't she?
To all the places I have not visit, yet. And to the languages I have not mastered, yet. And to all my friends I have not met, yet: I love you, unconditionally. -Lindy Dharmawan

What Makes My Day

Waking up in the morning with a phone call of someone singing this song.

I don't want another pretty face
I don't want just anyone to hold
I don't want my love to go to waste
I want you and your beautiful soul
You're the one I wanna chase
You're the one I wanna hold
I won't let another minute go to waste
I want you and your beautiful soul

I know that you are something special
To you I'd always be faithful
I want to be what you always needed
Then I hope you'll see the heart in me

I don't want another pretty face
I don't want just anyone to hold
I don't want my love to go to waste
I want you and your beautiful soul
You're the one I wanna chase
You're the one I wanna hold
I won't let another minute go to waste
I want you and your beautiful soul

Your beautiful soul, yeah
You might need time to think it over
But I'm just fine moving forward
I'll ease your mind
If you give me the chance
I will never make you cry c'mon lets try

Am I crazy for wanting you
Baby do you think you could want me too
I don't wanna waste your time
I don't wanna waste your time
Do you see things the way I do
I just wanna know you feel it too
There is nothing left to hide

I don't want another pretty face
I don't want just anyone to hold
I don't want my love to go to waste
I want you and your beautiful soul
You're the one I wanna chase
You're the one I wanna hold
I won't let another minute go to waste
I want you and your soul

I don't want another pretty face
I don't want just anyone to hold
I don't want my love to go to waste
I want you and your beautiful soul

Thank you :)

Whisper & Faith in House

Whisper by A Fine Frenzy and Faith by George Michael.

You've got to listen to these songs!!

I discovered them while watching my current favorite TV show: House MD. Hugh Laurie is a-mazing! It's been a pandemic in my school for the past week. Thanks to Meva Nareza for introducing it to us! As you know, our high school is divided into four major and I currently majored in Biology. Finding a movie like House is like killing two birds in one shot. We get to watch a movie AND learn something new. Not just biology or meds material, but also humanity and morale value. And some belly-shaker as well :) If you haven't watched it yet, go run to the nearest DVD store and enjoy House's hospitality in your flatscreen.

At first, I find some difficulties to watch this TV shows because it is full with medical terms. But don't worry it will not ruin the story cause eventhough you don't understand it, it doesn't really matter. Also House likes to use metaphors to make things a little bit more 'understandable'. Hey but if you're curious I'm going to list some medical terms that are used frequently in House's series. Enjooyy:

1. EKG: Electrocardiogram; used to monitor heartbeats
2. EEG: Electroencephalogram; used to monitor brain electrical activity. You'll hear terms like alpha waves, theta waves, delta waves etc.
3. CSF: Cerebrospinal Fluid; fluid that surrounds brain your spinal cord
4. LP: Lumbar Puncture; diagnostic test that takes out your CSF from your backbone and examine it
5. PT: Prothrombine Time; time measured for how long does your plasma clots
6. PTT: Partial Thromboplastin Time; time measured for how long does your blood clots
7. CHEM7: A test that measure your blood chemical substances. There are 7 subtstances measured: Sodium, Potassium, Chloride, Glucose, CO2, Creatinine and BUN
8. BUN: Blood Urea Nitrogen
9. CT, PET, MRI: Scanning devices
10. OR: Operating Room
11. MS: Multiple Sclerosis: a disease where the nerves are demyelinated
12. MRSA: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus
13. HLA: Human Leukocyte Antigen; it's what they tested if they want to do a bone marrow transplant
14. Intubate: Make airways for people who have respiratory distress
15. B.P: Blood Pressure
16. O2 Sats: Saturation of haaemoglobin with O2
17. Bradycardia: Slow heart rate
18. Tachycardia: Fast heart rate
19. Preeclampsia: Pregnant women with high blood pressure
20. Sarcoidosis: inflammation of lymph nodes and other body tissue
21. Amyloidosis: amyloid protein abnormally deposited inside your body
22. V-fib: Ventricular fibrillation; severe abnormal heart rythm
23. V-tach: Ventricular tachycardia; rapid heartbeat that starts in the ventricle
24: DIC: Disseminated intravascular coagulation; your body throwing clots everywhere
25. CBC: Complete Blood Counts
26. Everything ends with -oma: Cancer
27. Everything ends with -itis: Inflammation
28. Everything ends with -pathy: Anomaly
29. VQ: Ventilation-perfusion scan, measure your airflow and bloodflow
30. Paraneoplastic syndrome: it's a syndrome that occurs if your body got a cancer
31. Anythings IV: Intravenous, liquid
32. IG(A/D/E/M/G): Immunoglobulin, type of antibodies
33. Banana bag: A type of IV fluid with lots of vitamins and dextrose for alcoholic. They called it banana cause it's yellow
34. Dialysis: a machine that takes over your kidney's job when they're failing

That's about it, I think. Well, if you find more, you can always depend on Mr. Google. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to continue watching Dr. House. I am hoping that one day, I could be a doctor just like him. HOPKINS HERE I COME!!! *music plays*
